Mary E. E. McRae (nee Hunt)
Mary E.E. McRae (new Hunt) was Gwynnyd's mother and author of poem about her son in "British Role of Honour". She was my Great Grandmother. Family oral history says that she was one of the first women to graduate from McGill university in Montreal. She married Andew Cameron McRae and moved with him to Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island. Andrew had a lumber business there and owned three sailing schooners which were used to transport lumber across Georgian Bay. The ships were sunk in a storm prompting Andrew to move his family first to Duncan Ontario and then ultimately Weston Ontario. I have two other paintings, which although unsigned are said by my parents to have been painted by her.
The family bible of Andew Cameron McRae, has pages of family history notes largely written by Mary E. E. Hunt. Photographs of these pages are shown below.
William McRae was Gwynnyd' grandfather, my great-great-grandfather.
